CULTURAL INTERPRETING

Film

If you are part of a film's international delegation that will participate in a film event abroad and you are looking for a professional interpreter who can translate for you, you have come to the right place.

I'll support you throughout the festival and make sure you can communicate with your international audience during the film's theatrical debut, Q&A sessions, workshops, press conferences, junket interviews, and round tables.

I can help you talk about yourself authentically and share your passion for what you do. You can speak and write in your own language. I’ll take care of translating what you say.

My cultural interpreting service in the film sector is available The types of interpreting usually used in these situations are simultaneous or a combination of consecutive and chuchotage. Do you need to translate synopses, series pitches or a script to present to possible investors, producers or Italian distributors? I can help you here too! I’ll translate your texts from English and Spanish to Italian.

THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF INTERPRETING FOR THE FILM INDUSTRY

During international film events with stars and top filmmakers from around the world having an interpreter is a must, both for the journalists and distributors who are there to write about or distribute the films coming out on the market and for the film buffs who want to meet their favorite stars and get the most out of the event

For events with a high national and international profile like a film festival – where many radio and television broadcasters take part – relying on a professional interpreter is essential. We are not intimidated by the spotlight and can maneuver in a dynamic context where there are often last-minute program changes

When I interpret for a talent in the film industry, I have to be always up to date on the person's biography and filmography (including studying how the titles of the films translated were into Italian, English, or Spanish). I also have to know the technical industry jargon (for example, when I interpret for a director, I have to know all the terms for editing techniques). I need to draw on broad cultural and film knowledge (references to cult classics and the history of great filmmakers are always waiting to be sprung on us!). I have to be aware of the current political situation and – last but not least – give to voice the actor or director's feelings, taking care to choose the right words and respect their communication and expressive style

IN THE WORLD OF FILM, I HAVE INTERPRETED:

  • During the 2019 and 2020 editions of the Alice nella Città festival, a parallel event of the Rome Film Festival. I lent my voice to actors and actresses, directors, producers, and film distributors during press conferences, interviews, Q&A sessions, and film presentations. The types of interpreting used were consecutive or chuchotage between Spanish, English, and Italian.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You should write me at least two months before the event

It takes quite a long time to prepare for a film festival (the more talents to support, the more biographies and filmographies to study).

I can consider last-minute requests but I can't ensure my availability. I could already be committed to another project or need more time to ensure top quality.

A true professional never comes to an event without having prepared in advance.

It depends. To choose simultaneous interpreting, you need to have rooms equipped with receivers, infrared transmitters, and headsets that let me translate the moderators' questions to the foreign speakers – who are also equipped with headsets – and their answers for the audience.

In most cases, except for very large events, a combination of consecutive and chuchotage interpreting is used. Some festivals prefer these methods because the audience likes to hear the original speech. Simultaneous interpreting is mainly used for workshops and masterclasses.

I translate about 2,000 words a day, but the time it takes can vary from project to project. After the translation is done, I need to “let it sit” to then revise it with fresh eyes and correct any typos or errors. Only then is it ready to be delivered.

Yes! I use software that lets me translate your text while maintaining its format and layout.
